A live chat is a private conversation between you and another person.
Who has access to the live chat?
- All users in the organization.
- Guest users, but they can only directly chat with users in the channels they have access to.
You can also send chat messages to a synced Slack channel.
Open your live chats
On computer
Step 1 – Find the chat
- Select chat in the menu bar with icons.
Step 2 – See more live chats
- If it says “… more live channels”, click there to open a list.
- Search for a colleague or guest and open the chat.
Quick navigator:
- Press the letter Q on your keyboard or open the context menu.
- Type the person's name and press Enter.
On mobile

- Open the context menu on the lightning icon.
- Enter the person's name and tap on the user to open the chat.
Send a chat message
On computer
Step 1 – Write the message
- Type your message in the field.
Step 2 – Send
- Press Enter or click Send.
Step 3 – Add emoji (optional)
- Select the emoji from the list or type a colon followed by the emoji name.
On mobile
Step 1 – Write the message
- Type your message in the field.
Step 2 – Send
- Press Send.
Step 3 – Add emoji (optional)
- Use your mobile's emoji keyboard or type a colon followed by the emoji name.
Schedule a message
You can send messages immediately or schedule them to be sent later. Scheduled messages appear in their own view in the chat or channel.
On computer
Step 1 – Open Scheduling
- Click on the scheduling option.
Step 2 – Write the message
- Fill in the text you want to send.
Step 3 – Choose a time
- Enter the date and time when the message should be sent.
Step 4 – Confirm
- Click Schedule.
On mobile
Step 1 – Open Scheduling
- Tap the scheduling option.
Step 2 – Write the message

- Tap Schedule.
Manage scheduled messages
On computer
- Go to the chat or channel.
- Click on the three-dot menu.
- Select scheduling.
- Hover over the message and select edit.
• Here you can change the text, adjust the time or delete the message.
On mobile
- Go to the chat or channel.
- Tap the three-dot menu.
